Things are finally heating up on the sequel! Collider reports that Jason Clark (Zero Dark Thirty, Lawless) will star in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and that the film will take place fifteen years after Rise.
UPDATE (2/22): Kodi Smit-McPhee (Let Me In) has also been added to the cast.
UPDATE (2/28): The Awesomeness quotient has just increased greatly! Gary Oldman has now joined the cast, too, as the leader of the human colony (that makes two people from Lawless.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes Premieres in Hollywood Posted: July 28, 2011
James Franco, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, Andy Serkis, and Tom Felton (and even Felton’s Harry Potter co-star, Rupert Grint) hit the red carpet in Hollywood last night at the world-famous Grauman’s Chinese Theatre for the world premiere of Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
Naturally, there’s lots of news coverage from the event: MTV News, LA Times, CBS News, and USA Today, which offers a replay of the live stream of the event.
New Apes Prequel Comic – Free Online! Posted: July 13, 2011 BOOM! Studios is posting a free Rise of the Planet of the Apes online prequel comic, by Daryl Gregory, Damian Couceiro, and Tony Parker, to set up events in the up-coming movie. New updates are added each week.
New UK Trailer! Posted: June 22, 2011 The Sun has posted the UK Rise of the Planet of the Apes trailer. This is a much longer trailer than we’ve seen previously, that covers much of the plot (and is therefore spoiler-filled). Have to say, this is looking better and better.
Planet of the Apes Roundtable on The Chronic Rift Podcast Posted: June 16, 2011
Last week I had the great pleasure of joining host John S. Drew and fellow guest Dayton Ward on
The Chronic Rift Podcast for discussion of, Planet of the Apes. We covered most everything from the original films, the TV shows, why we all dislike the Tim Burton remake, and our hopes for the upcoming Conquest remake. We covered a lot of ground in one hour and could have easily talked for two.
The TV Series Episode Guide has been updated to includes the writers and director of each episode.
New Trailer! Posted: June 3, 2011
Yahoo Movies (what, no Apple?) has posted a new, more complete Rise of the Planet of the Apes trailer! This one gives a much clearer scope of the story, and shows a lot more of the apes in action. It's a great trailer, and while the apes look amazing, they still look... not quite real.
Alamo Drafthouse Recap: ‘Day of the Apes’ Event Posted: June 1, 2011 Fandango’s Movie Blog has a nice recap of Alamo Drafthouse’s recent Planet of the Apes Marathon. Their blogger provides a few details of the event, then appraises each film and lists them in chronological order (NOT the order of release). Certainly brought back fond college memories, when some friends and I had our own Apes spur-of-the-moment marathon. We started in the evening with a room full of people, but were only down to about five when Battle finished the next morning.
The Trailer Is Here! Posted: April 14, 2011
Apple has posted the Rise of the Planet of the Apes trailer! You can also watch it right here. Those amazing four seconds come at the end. Have to say it looks pretty impressive.
For those of us that missed it, Livestream is repeating WETA Live: “Apes” Revealed event. It features concersations with Andy Serkis (Caesar), the visual effects guys from WETA (who also did Avatar, concept art, and a glimpse of the trailer.
We’ve Got a Logo, a (Really, Really Short) Clip, and More! Posted: April 12, 2011
With the recent move to August 5, we figured quite correctly that things would start moving fast on Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Fox has now released a
logo and a four-second clip (that’s right, four seconds). While short, the clip is pretty awesome nonetheless.
For those of us that want to see more, WETA just announced that they are holding a streaming event on Facebook tomorrow. Nothing like advanced notice, eh?
Apes Gets Yet Another Title Change Posted: April 7, 2011
Who can keep up with these titles? First it was Caesar, then Caesar: Rise of the Apes, and then just Rise of the Apes. Now, according to Dark Horizons Fox has changed the title again to Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Have to say though, we like it. Just as Fox intended, it brings it in line with the whole series. Let’s hope this is the last one.
/Film reports that we should see a trailer next week, on April 15. Let’s hope that’s the case!
Apes Move Back to Summer! Posted: March 23, 2011
Looks like we won’t have to wait until Thanksgiving after all. Dark Horizons reports that Fox has shifted Rise of the Planet of the Apes again, now to August 5. That means they’re going to have to get on the stick marketing wise, so things should ramp up pretty quickly.
First Official Photo from Rise of the Apes! Posted: February 25, 2011
Fox has released the first official on-set photo from Rise of the Apes, which you can see courtesy of FilmoFilia. Not much to look at just yet – it just shows James Franco sitting in a lab, presumably looking at a computer screen, wearing the biggest phone headset I've ever seen in my life. Naturally, the unofficial photos that appeared previously are a lot better.
ClevverMovies chimes in on this one as well:
Apes Won’t Rise Until Thanksgiving Posted: January 16, 2011 Dark Horizons reports that Fox, in a big schedule shuffle, has delayed Rise of the Apes from June 24 to November 23.
Franco talks to MTV News Posted: October 21, 2010
James Franco talked to MTV News about Rise of the Apes, which he describes as more of a “Frankenstein story.” Hmmm...
First Promo Art for Rise of the Apes? Posted: October 11, 2010 Ain’t It Cool News has posted an interesting piece of artwork from the set of Caesar: Rise of the Apes. It’s a thank-you card from the Props Department, with a very interesting logo (totally different from what we've already seen). I especially like the monkey and banana "signatures" at the bottom. It will be interesting to see how this compares with the final artwork.
Rise of the Apes On-Set Photos! Posted: July 12, 2010
Someone named “Alex” has posted a nice collection of on-set photos from Rise of the Apes. You can see pics of Franco and Pinto in costumed (everyday clothes), plus Andy Serkis and some other guy in their mocap suits. An interesting bit of detail is that the other guy, who's leotard is labeled “Caesar,” is wearing arm extenders in what appears to be a scene where he's running loose in San Francisco. In the other photo of Serkis, he’s not wearing the extenders. Also, there's a logo for the fim, done in the tradition of the originals.
Draco Malfoy and Some Other Guy Join Apes Posted: July 17, 2010 Dark Horizons reports, courtesy of Bloody Disgusting and Variety (talk about two different sources), that Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy in Harry Potter) and David Oyelowo (The Last King of Scotland) have joined the cast of Apes. Nice to see Felton moving on from Harry Potter. Let's hope this is a good start for him.
Brian Cox Joins Rise of the Apes! Posted: July 12, 2010
The Amazing Brian Cox, one of my favorite actors, has now joined Rise of the Apes as the head bad guy (no surprise), according to The Wrap. Cox hit my fave list on the day I finally realized that several amazingling different characters in different movies were all played by the same guy. The man is a human chameleon.
King Kong Playing Caesar! Posted: June 30, 2010
Not sure if this is a promotion or a demotion, but Andy Serkis, who played the title role in King Kong (not to mention Gollum in Lord of the Rings, has been hired to play Caesar in Rise of the Apes. Having played Kong, the king of all apes, he's certainly got the experience. Who else was WETA going to hire?
John Lithgow Joins Apes, Pinto Now Official Posted: June 22, 2010 The Hollywood Reporter, er... reports that John Lithgow and Freida Pinto are now both on board Rise of the Apes, and gives another hint to the plot. Seems Lithgow (where has he been?) will be playing Franco's Alzheimer's-stricken father and Pinto a primatologist. No mention of Cheadle, though.
So, PotA Was Wrong About the Future? Posted: June 20, 2010
Geekosystem ranks the original (what else?) Planet of the Apes #4 on their list of 10 Works of Retrofuturist Fiction That Were Wrong. Of course we're not going to have Ape overlords. Everyone knows it's the robots that are going to take over.
Slumdog and War Machine Joining Apes? Posted: June 17, 2010
Bloody Disgusting reports that Frida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire) and Don Cheadle (Iron Man 2), are now in talks to join James Franco in Rise of the Apes. Have to say this is looking interesting, though I have no idea why Bloody Disgusting is reporting on PotA.
ClevverMovies chimes in as well:
James Franco to Star in Rise of the Apes? Posted: May 20, 2010 According to Deadline.com, Fox is now in talks with James Franco to star in the Conquest Remake, Rise of the Apes. Production is supposed to start in July, so we should be getting a lot of cast announcements soon.
Release Date and... CGI Apes? Posted: May 7, 2010
Fox has given Rise of the Apes a release date of June 24, 2011, and announced that instead of using make-up, the apes will be done in CGI. They couldn't hire Rick Baker again? His work was one of the only good things about the Tim Burton remake. Still, it's WETA, so we’ll keep an open mind. Got to love the photo in this article. I believe that’s our good friends over at Apemania.
Prequel to Begin Filming in July Posted: April 20, 2010 Production Weekly reported via Twitter that the Conquest-Remake/Prequel Caesar is set to start filming mid-July in Canada (more run-away production). Though I like the possibilities of remaking Conquest, I'm not real crazy about the Alzheimers cure plotline, which is something they toyed with in previous drafts (back when Ahnuld was slated to star) of what eventually became the Tim Burton remake.
Conquest Remake/Prequel Plot Details! Posted: March 13, 2010
The good folks at CHUD have scored again! They just posted a complete plot synopsis of the Conquest Remake, now called Caesar: Rise of the Apes. Still hanging with the genetic thing from the previous attempt at remaking Planet, but this one tips its hat toward the original series far more than the Tim Burton version.
Apes Remake/Prequel Movie Gets a Director Posted: March 12, 2010
We thought this thing was dead (or at least really stuck deep in the pits of Development Hell), but according to Deadline.com, the latest attempt at a new Apes movie seems to have gotten a director in Rupert Wyatt. No, I never heard of him, either.
Scott Frank Escapes the Planet of the Apes Posted: January 8, 2010
Well, it looks like Scott Frank is no longer attached to the Conquest Remake. The good folks over at CHUD have once again caught up with Frank and gotten the straight scoop.
Scott Frank Hired for Conquest Remake Posted: December 1, 2008
CHUD caught up with writer/director Scott Frank, who's been hired to work on the Conquest Remake. Frank says it's not a remake of Conquest, even though it sure sounds like one.
Ricardo Montalban, 1920-2009 Posted: January 14, 2009
The man who will forever be remembered as Khan, Mr. Roarke, and kindly circus-owner Armando, has passed away at 88. Montalban made his mark many times over in the Sci-Fi genre: in addition to Escape and Conquest, he was in Fantasy Island, Spy Kids, Kim Possible, and one of the greatest sequels ever made (not to mention one of the best Sci-Fi films), Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
Apes Take Over Fox Movie Channel Thanksgiving Weekend Posted: November 1, 2008
This Thanksgiving weekend, the apes are taking over Fox Movie Channel. “Channel of the Apes,” the four day tribute to the ground-breaking Planet of the Apes science-fiction franchise, includes the first five theatrical films, five television movies and the premiere of Fox Legacy: Planet of the Apes. Thursday, November 27 through Sunday, November 30.
Charlton Heston, 1923-2008 Posted: April 6, 2008
Sadly, one of our greatest actors
has passed away. Charlton Heston will always be remembered for his
great film roles, from The Ten Commandments, Ben-Hur,
Touch of Evil, Soylent Green, The Omega Man, and so many
others. But he will always be Col. George Taylor to us. Our hearts
and prayers go out to his friends and family.

LINK: Entertainment Weekly ranked Battle for the Planet of the Apes
at #18 on their list of The 25 Worst
Sequels Ever Made. Not surprising, but at least it did better than
Episode I and Batman & Robin.
THANKS: We're less than a month away to the DVD
release of Superman II: The Richard
Donner Cut! Thanks again to everyone who participated in our
letter-writing campaign. It was the never-ending fan interest that made
this possible.
Be sure to reserve our copy!
July 7, 2006: SCROLLS: We pontificate on Hollywood's
efforts to "re-create the Golden Age"
of 30s and 40s pulps onscreen, from Indiana Jones, through The
Shadow, The Rocketeer, and up to King Kong.
March 20, 2006:
About that email campaign... Well, we decided against it for a couple of
reasons:
1) With the Ultimate Collection coming out March 28, we just didn't have
time to put it together.
2) Fox is giving us (almost) everything we want. First off, the Ultimate
Collection (and every release from now on) has the uncut version of
Battle. In addition, Fox is also releasing just the films as a box set
(The Legacy Collection), as well as individually, all with the uncut
version of Battle. The only thing we're not getting is The Animated
Series as a separate release and those still missing deleted scenes
(though we can nix Battle from that list).

Apes, the best fan edit since our Twilight Zone episode. It's Planet,
with only Heston's speaking parts. Like going to a party with a great host,
but he
never shuts up.
LINK: Check out WB's new excellent
Year
of Superman website to see how it's really done. The Franchise Trailer
is excellent, and check the Home Video calendar to see the Donner Cut
listed for Q4.
In similar news, we're putting together a letter campaign
(like we did for Superman II) regarding "The Ultimate Collection"
DVDs, which are missing deleted footage from Battle, Conquest,
and more. Stay tuned for details, because we have to act fast on this one.
February 1, 2006: Fantastic News: Thanks to all of our efforts, WB is releasing Superman II: The Donner Cut
on DVD later this year, as part of Superman: Ultimate
Collector's Edition!
More Good News: Fox is releasing Planet of the
Apes: The Ultimate Collection on DVD this year, which not only
contains all five original films and the Tim Burton film, but also the TV
series and, for the first time ever, the Animated Series. No word yet on
those deleted scenes, but we're checking on it.

The Digital Cinema has a great review of the previous full DVD
release, Planet of the Apes: The Evolution, and rightly points out
some of the items that should have been included.
November 1, 2005:
Premiere Magazine ranked Planet of the Apes' ending #18 as one of
25 Most Shocking Moments in Movie History. They put it ahead of Jaws
(24), The Sixth Sense (22), and The Shining (20), and behind Empire
Strikes Back (17), The Godfather (14), Deliverance (7), Bonnie and Clyde
(5), Psycho (4), Alien (3), and Public Enemy (2). Good company indeed.

Uber-Cool News: See Planet of the Apes in the actual Forbidden Zone!
In 2005, the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is setting out on a 6000 mile, 21 day
journey, across the west for the
Rolling Roadshow Tour. They will be screening 12 famous films in their
original shooting locations, chosen specifically to intensify the viewing
experience. When Charlton Heston crash lands at the beginning of PLANET OF
THE APES, it isn’t an alien planet as it first appears, it’s the good ol’
USA; Lake Powell, Utah/Arizona to be specific. Planet of the Apes is
screening Friday, August 24, in a natural amphitheater. See their website
for all the details.
June 23, 2005:
Fun News: Charlton Heston's immortal line from Planet of the Apes, "Get your
stinking paws off me, you damned dirty ape," scored in at #66 on
AFI's list of top
100 movie quotes. One of only two quotes that have a swear word in it
(the top quote, from Gone With the Wind, has the same word). Our man Chuck
also came in at #77 with "Soylent Green is people!"

extra bandwidth.
June 23, 2004: Many thanks to everyone who joined our Superman II campaign. If we get
any new on the results, we'll post it on the page. Again, thanks to
everyone who sent their letters in. UPDATE: Warner Bros. responds! See the

Special Editions, which is what Lucas is releasing this Fall).
May 31, 2004:
As a special thanks to everyone who has joined and is helping to spread
the word about our Superman II
campaign, we've posted the original Seinfeld & Superman American
Express Commercial from 1998.
May 11, 2004:
We've updated the site with a whole new look. Please pardon our dust as we
iron out any kinks that we may have missed in reformatting everything. The
one bad thing about the site getting as big as it has is that it takes a
lot longer to update look of it. We've re-organized the sections and
changed the menu system a bit, so hopefully it will be easier to find
things.
April 30, 2004:
Continuing with our Superman II campaign,
we've added a couple of photos and video clips from two of Richard
Donner's missing scenes, plus quotes from Christopher Reeve and
Margot Kidder.

And to top it all off, the Fox Movie Channel is showing
the EXTENDED CUT of BATTLE because THE FORBIDDEN ZONE
asked for it! This rare cut of the film is NOT available on video or
DVD and has only been released on laserdisc in Japan. But now, thanks to
this website, it's going to be seen on The Fox Movie Channel!
September 29, 2002 NEWS: Sadly, we have three more obituaries to
report for former Apes cast-members. James
Gregory (Beneath), Jeff Corey (Beneath),
and Ron Soble (TV Series) have all passed
away recently. Our hearts are with their families as well. They will be
greatly missed.
September 11, 2002
A lot has happened since our last update, which was just before the
Terrorist attacks of 9/11. Our hearts mourn with the rest of the nation as
we reflect back on those horrible events and the true heroes that rose up
to the challenge.

the site which, ironically, turned out to be a whole lot of busy work, in
order to make it easier to update the site. Please be patient as we try to
iron things out.
NEWS: We were saddened to learn
that Kim Hunter died today. Not the type of
news we were looking for to update the site, to say the least. Our hearts
are with her family as well.
Of course, we would be remiss in not mentioning
Charlton Heston's recent announcement that he has Alzheimer's disease.
September 6, 2001 NEWS: We learned, sadly, last week that make-up

July 26, 2001 YOU FOUND US! NBCi is no longer offering free
web space, so we were forced to find a new home. So, after five years, we
figured it was high-time we had a place of our own! The tough part was
finding a new URL (the ones we wanted were taken). Then NBCi stopped
allowing uploads before we had the new address ready, so please tell all
your Ape friends where we are. We're doing the best we can to spread the
word. The good news is that since we FINALLY have a permanent address, if
we ever move again, it will be seamless to our visitors. We've got a group
of updates that were meant for last week and more to come! Enjoy the new
movie!
REMAKE NEWS: Fox is sweating
bullets as the release is less than two weeks away and the movie still
isn't finished! Our source says not to worry, though. Plus, we've got the

June 26, 2001 CONTEST: Oops! We goofed on one of our
contest questions (#6), so that one won't count in the final tally, though
we have now corrected it. That's what we get for not double-checking all
of our facts. Keep those entries coming.
REMAKE NEWS: A little bit of
scoopage concerning some possible reshoots, the twist-ending revealed (?)
on another website (no spoilers here), where you can glimpse the POTA
lunchboxes (seriously, we're not kidding), and Tim Burton actually getting
creeped out.

smoke-filled rooms at Fox Marketing.

the complete screenplay for Escape. Took us long enough to finish it.
Also, we have our own fan script for a POTA 6, Stand-off on the Planet of the
Apes.
February 22, 2001 Remake News: The Fox Marketing Machine is gearing up
with more images from the movie. Plus, first glimpse of the 7-foot standee now
appearing in theatres, and it looks like we'll all finally see the trailer on
March 2! And, we've got the URL for the official website and have uncovered a
mystery surrounding the video release website...

February 14, 2001
Happy Valentines Day! As usual, we've got more news on the Remake, with news on the Remake trailer and the first
batch of photos via Vanity Fair.
We've added a few Apes-related links to the Links page.
Once and for all, Natalie Trundy did NOT play Stewart in POTA,
it was Dianne Stanley. We've got the proof with a
great photo on her bio page (only trouble is, we don't know anything else about
her).
In the News: Joey Travolta is working on
a screen bio of Sal Mineo; Remake is a big hit at 2001 Toy Fair.
Pardon our dust while we work on a new look for our fifth
anniversary (Feb. 29, a bit tricky being a leap year website). The full revamp
should be ready by then, plus a few extra goodies to celebrate the occasion.
February 2-8, 2001
Another bundle of info, all about the Remake, of
course: See some images from the film, the first of Mark Wahlberg and a way cool
poster for marketing partners that describes the main characters and says the
big F word, "Franchise."
January 30, 2001
HOT NEWS! Fox releases the first official photo from the new film. Also,
more on Michael Clarke Duncan's injury, and the official plotline from Fox
(don't worry, it was written by the marketing department, so it doesn't give
away anything). It's all on the Remake page.
January 16-18, 2001
More test photos from the Remake have hit the web.
Plus, we got our own confirmation on how the movie will look, and Army Archerd

January 10-15, 2001

yourself. Plus, the first report on merchandising, and is Clooney back in?
December 18-29, 2000
Well, it's been a good week folks. Lots of photos of the sets and costumes have
popped up on the Net this past week, and we've got links to point you to them (gotta
give credit where credit's due). Just go to the Remake
page for a quick glimpse and to be pointed in the right directions.
Forbidden Zone Exclusive! Well, Dark Horizons beat us
with the poster (and hat's off to 'em), but we've got a bigger, clearer version
thanks to one of our loyal readers. That's right, just truck on over to the Remake page.
December 15, 2000
Of course, more Remake news, but now it's getting
really interesting. We've got the first peak at the teaser poster and news about
the teaser trailer coming soon (?). Plus, word from Clooney himself on whether
or not he'll be in it.

You can pretty much bet that every update from now on will have Remake news.

about a death on the production.

What's this? Has Zanuck changed his mind? Interesting casting news on a couple
of cameos in the Remake. Plus a bit of info about
location shooting, which is supposed to start next week.
October 24-27, 2000
As usual, more Remake news. New release date
announced.
October 11-14, 2000
You guessed it, more Remake news. This time about
additional script polishing, Wahlberg's physique, and that dang title. Plus an
added bit about Michael Clarke Duncan.
September 26, 2000
Latest updates on the Remake. Turns out that title
isn't what a lot of people thought it was. Glad we didn't jump on it.

February 22-24, 2000
Finally, some news on the Apes Remake! You won't
believe who Fox is talking to about directing... (Special thanks to everyone who
informed us of the news as soon as it broke!)
A small update to the news on Todd McFarlane's Gorilla World.
July 29, 1999 We've added a special treat on our Video page to
celebrate all the new server space -- it's the Serta commercial featuring
Cornelius.
July 23, 1999 Welcome to our new home! Please pardon any quirks you may run into while we
get settled in. Now we've got more web space and don't have to deal with AOL's
crummy FTP program, so the updates should be a little more frequent (provided we
find new material). To celebrate our new location, we've got lots of new stuff.
New additions to the Library:
- Check out our Lost Apes page for missing movie
scenes, unproduced TV episodes, and more.
- Check out our Simpsons page for images, sounds,
and lyrics to the Planet of the Apes musical.
It's been a while, but we've finally heard some
more Remake news!
Star Wars Producer Rick McCallum had some unkind
words over the prospect of casting Charlton Heston as a Jedi Master. We think
McCallum should learn a little R-E-S-P-E-C-T.
We've got Star Wars books and music galore at the
Ape City Traders!
March 25, 1999
We've added a new section: Shop at the Ape City Traders
for books, videos, and music.
February 3, 1999
Welcome to the new site design! Please pardon our dust as we work out the kinks.
We figured it was time for an overhaul, plus the new design allows content pages
to load quicker.
We were deeply saddened to hear about the death
of Escape director Don Taylor. Click here to read more on Yahoo.
We were also concerned to hear that Charlton
Heston has prostate cancer, but, fortunately, seems to be winning the battle. Click here to read more on Yahoo.
Just for the Record: We think Charlton Heston
should have done the voice of God in Prince of Egypt. What a missed
opportunity!
December 17, 1998 Hot Remake News: James Cameron is off the
picture. It's a sad day for science-fiction fans...
Correction: In the last update of our FAQ, we incorrectly stated that Planet of the Apes
won three Oscars. It actually received two nominations and one special award for
make-up design.
September 16, 1998
